A funny name, indeed. A Zebra Crossing is a kind of pedestrian crossing marked on a road by broad alternate black and white stripes. British can be very creative with names: there are currently five types of formal pedestrian crossings used in the United Kingdom, these being Zebra, Pelican, Puffin, Toucan and Pegasus Crossings. :)
